Endless feedback, a heavenly drone, and an obsession with science and outer space are the three elements that perhaps best define the sound of Illinois space rock and shoegaze band Hum. The group broke through with their radio hit "Stars" off You'd Prefer an Astronaut and spent several years riding the alternative rock wave before breaking Missing: San Serac.
The album features a faster, heavy sound somewhere between punk rock and heavy metal, with more overt political and humorous material than the later oblique lyrics that Matt Talbott would write. Pressure grew on de Lay to focus his efforts on Mother and other pursuits, so he too left on good terms with the other members of : Alternative rock, alternative metal, .
· Love it - been listening the last few days on repeat! For the uninitiated, Hum has a bit of a cult-ish following who appreciated their music on a much higher level than "one hit wonder" status (myself being one of that cult for sure) - it's so cool that they finally released something - it's been 22 years, and it's a great g: San Serac.

His thematically linked album covers (featuring lone blonde goddesses being courted -- or surrounded -- by a phalanx of WASP lotharios) are a joy to record collectors and smarmy indie rock ironists everywhere.
